Day 2 – Orange – Monarch Butterflies

I’ve loved monarch butterflies since I was a little girl, so when it came to doing orange nail art, this is the first thing that I thought of.  They’ve been very popular lately, so there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube if you’re interested.

This was my first attempt at these, and I’m obsessed with them.  I’m really glad I have nothing to do today because I want to keep this on as long as possible, but it looks kind of ridiculous on only one hand.  I wish I was more ambidextrous so I could do decent nail art on my right hand.

I started with an angled gradient of Zoya Arizona (light orange) and Essie Orange, It’s Obvious (medium orange – less red than it looks in the picture) then painted on the design with Essie Licorice (black) and Essie Blanc (white).

These are much easier than they look, and it’s pretty hard to mess them up since I think they look better with imperfections.  I like certain nails better than others, but overall, I really like the look.  Plus, in real life, you can’t really tell where I messed up.

What do you think?  Have you or are you going to attempt the butterfly trend?  If you have, post the link in the comments, I’d love to see them!

I have something pretty cool planned for tomorrow, and I’m really hoping it works out!

  1. These look awesome! I’ve seen butterfly nails before but always thought they looked a bit tricky, might give these a go now… Agree that it would be hard to do on opposite hand though.. 🙂
