Padfoot

Today I have another awesome indie polish.  I’ve kind of been ignoring my indies lately, but I’ve been determined to give them some love, since I have a ton of them I’ve never worn.  You might already know that Lac Attack released another Harry Potter themed collaboration collection with Glitta Gloves.  And if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably already know that I bought it (ok, fine, I preordered the entire collection the second it was available); I have a serious weakness for polish named after my favorite things (even if I don’t actually like the color).  Luckily, I’m kind of in love with Lac Attack – her polishes are so amazing she actually makes me like things I usually don’t, like bar glitter.  This is Padfoot from the Magical Mischief collection and it is gorgeous!

padfoot

Padfoot is a warm brown holographic polish.  I don’t typically like brown, but this is really pretty!  It ended up being one of my favorites of the collection.  The formula was awesome – super smooth and opaque in two coats.

For those of you who don’t know, Padfoot is Sirius Black’s nickname.  Although I guess if you didn’t know that, you don’t know who Sirius Black is so go read/watch some Harry Potter.  Because if you haven’t, you are really missing out.

You can get Padfoot and the rest of the Magical Mischief collection here!  Also check out the first Lac Attack/Glitta Gloves Harry Potter collection, Magical Musings.  There really is something for everyone in there: jellies, holos, glow in the dark, and tons of glitter!

The Chicago Collection

Today I am very excited to have Lac Attack’s Chicago Collection for you!  I love Chicago, so I was really excited when these were announced, and they definitely didn’t disappoint!  They were inspired by the song “Cell Block Tango”, is probably my favorite song from the musical – you should definitely go look it up right now if you’ve never heard it (check it out at the end of this post).

First up: Pop.  Hello circle glitter!  I’ve been lusting after circle glitter polishes for some time, and this one is my first!  So, even though pink isn’t really my thing, I’m kind of loving this!  It is a perfect representation of that part of the song, and it’s all-around a really cool polish.  Black microglitter, small neon pink glitter, and neon pink and black circle glitter… how could this combo not be amazing?  I used one coat over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  Neon freaks out my camera, so the darker pink is a more accurate representation of the color (they’re actually all the same color).

pop

So I said to him, ‘You pop that gum one more time…’ and he did.  So I took the shotgun off the wall and fired two warning shots… into his head.

Six is definitely a favorite!  If I could only get one, I’d probably pick this one.  It is a gorgeous mixture of super-sparkly green, blue, and purple microglitter.  I layered one coat over OPI Black Onyx.  So. Freaking. Pretty.  Right?

six

Single, my ass.  Not only was he married, oh, no, he had six wives… You know, some guys just can’t hold their arsenic.

Squish is destined to be a favorite.  It’s a classic mix of silver, red, and black glitter of different shapes and sizes.  The red bars did give me a bit of trouble because they’re really long, but they laid flat after I pushed them down with a toothpick – not a big deal.  This is one coat over Nails Inc. Basil Street.  P.S. This is my favorite part of the song.

Then he ran into my knife.  He ran into my knife ten times.

After the three glitters come the three shimmers.  The first is Uh-Uh.  This one was the thinnest and sheerest of the three, but super easy to work with.  It’s also pretty gorgeous.  I love jewel tones for fall, and this one is perfect.  This was two (and a half) coats.

uh-uh

Yeah, but did you do it?

Uh-Uh.  Not guilty.

Cicero is a shimmery, almost metallic, purple with blue and pink shimmer.  It reminds me a tiny bit of OPI Russian Navy.  Very pretty and vampy.  The formula on this one was a bit think, and a little difficult to work with, but it’s worth it.  I promise.  This was two coats, but you might be able to get away with one if you’re super careful.

cicero

It wasn’t until later, when I was washing the blood off my hands, I even knew they were dead.

And last, but certainly not least, is Lipschitz.  This one might just be my favorite.  I love this color.  I’m painting my bedroom soon and I might just be bringing this with me to the paint store.  It is the perfect emerald color with white shimmer and purple flecks.  I want to wear this all the time.  This one is almost a one-coater, but I did two to fill in a few bare spots.

lipschitz

I guess you can say we broke up because of artistic differences.  He saw himself as alive… and I saw him dead.

My picks are Lipschitz and Six, but I really do like the whole collection.  There is definitely something for everyone in here!

The Chicago Collection is launching today Saturday, September 21st at 1pm EST in the Lac Attack shop, so head over there to pick up a few (or all) of them.  Let me know which ones you get (or are planning on getting) in the comments below!  She is also opening up her brand new shop at the same time, so plenty of other polishes will be available for restock.

*These polishes were provided to me for my unbiased review.

P.S. This is the longest my nails have EVER been!  They don’t even look that long and they’re starting to get in the way – damn my tiny nail beds.  I don’t think I can do any longer than this, but I might keep them this way for a while.

Amortentia

“Amortentia doesn’t create actual love, of course. That’s impossible. But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. For that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room”
– Horace Slughorn (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)

For some reason, I’ve really been craving pink polishes lately.  So I decided to finally break out the pink from Lac Attack’s Magical Musings collection (it’s Harry Potter-themed), and go all out.  It is a layering polish (you could probably get it opaque in like 6 coats if you really wanted to), so I layered it over China Glaze Escaping Reality, which is a neon bubblegum pink (think Barbie).  I wasn’t really creative with the layering combo, but I think next time I want to try Amortentia over a dark purple.

amortentia

Amortentia is a bright pink shimmer with small and medium lavender holographic glitter.  It is really pretty, and perfectly suited to it’s namesake, the strongest “love” potion in the world.  Also, it kind of reminds me of the love potion display in Fred and George Weasley’s shop in the movie.

This was one of the few Magical Musings polishes I didn’t plan on buying, just because I rarely wear pink, especially bright pinks like this.  But I am a huge Harry Potter geek, and I ended up just grabbing the whole collection because Harry Potter nail polish is my kryptonite.  But I’m really glad I got it, because it is very pretty, and recently I’ve actually been buying and wearing more pink polish.

amortentia

Here is a macro shot of the bottle so you can see the color a bit better.  It is a bit cooler-toned than Escaping Reality, and adds that color shimmer to any polish you layer it over.  I really love that!  I am a huge fan of layering shimmer.

amortentia

While I can’t say this is my favorite of the collection, I was surprised to find that I do really like Amortentia.  It’s very versatile, and definitely different than anything else I own.

Lac Attack polishes are available here.  The Magical Musings collection is currently all sold out, but I’m sure it will be restocked eventually, so keep an eye out for that.

Beauxbatons Academy

I finally got around to wearing Lac Attack’s Bauxbatons Academy, from the Harry Potter-themed Magical Musings collection, and it is amazing! It is definitely one of the ones I was most looking forward to when I bought the set, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint.

beauxbatons academy

Beauxbatons Academy, named for one of the other European wizarding schools, is a pale blue jelly with white, blue and yellow glitter.  Very delicate, but still really interesting.  I think it captures the school perfectly.

It is a bit sheer, so I layered it over Zoya Blu, which is the perfect undies for Beauxbatons.  Shown is two coats of Beauxbatons over two coats of Blu, with topcoat.

I can’t pick a favorite from the collection, but this is definitely one of my top picks.  What do you think?

Durmstrang

Durmstrang was one of the few polishes from the Lac Attack Magical Musings collection that I wasn’t going to get.  And then, at the very last minute, I decided I needed the complete collection (you can’t get Hogwarts and Beauxbatons and leave out Durmstrang, right?).  I am soooo glad I did, because it is gorgeous!

durmstrang

For those of you who aren’t Potterheads, Durmstrang is a wizarding school in Eastern Europe, and is featured in several of the Harry Potter novels, especially The Goblet of Fire.  Not much is said about it, other than it is extremely cold there, and the students wear dark furs (and are also maybe taught the dark arts).

Durmstrang (the polish) is a sheer shimmery teal blue with black diamonds and shards.  I think it is a great representation of Durmstrang (the school).  The base is really sheer, so this is probably best as a layering polish.  I swatched it on only two fingers so you can see how the base in Durmstrang changes the color you put it over.

And here’s a bottle shot, so you can see how gorgeous it really is:

durmstrang

The formula was a little bit problematic.  I found it hard to get the bigger pieces out of the bottle, and even then, they didn’t want to stay on my nail.  It was a challenge to place the glitter while keeping the base even at the same time.  Still, it wasn’t the worst polish I’ve ever worked with.  Shown is two coats of Durmstrang on my index and middle fingers over Orly Snowcone.

durmstrang

I can’t wait to show you the rest of the Magical Musings collection!  They are available for purchase in Lac Attack’s store, both in mini and full sizes.  The entire Magical Musings collection will be restocked today (January 23, 2013) at 5pm EST.  If you miss out, don’t worry, because Anastasia swears they’re not going anywhere!

Death Day Party

The Lac Attack Magical Musings Collection is hands-down my favorite polish collection of 2012.  And when I first saw pictures of Death Day Party, I knew it was going to be a favorite (I love that part of the books, too!).  It is a clear base filled with tiny gray flakes, tinier orange/copper flakes, and some pink/blue/purple shimmer.  So, so gorgeous!

I took a close-up of the polish in the bottle so you can see how beautiful this polish is.  I really can’t tell you how much I love Death Day Party!  It is seriously magical!

death day party

I used it for some accent nails over yesterday’s OPI Do You Lilac It?, but I can’t wait to do a full mani with this, so you will definitely be seeing it again.  I used one coat here, with a bit of dabbing to fill in some sparser areas.

IMG_3854

I think I want to try Death Day Party over a darker color next.  Maybe a cobalt blue.  What color do you want to see it over?

If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out the Magical Musings collection, available in Lac Attack’s shop.  I’m pretty picky about the indies I buy, but I really love every single one of them!  I really need to get some more swatches of them up soon!

Holidays in Hogsmeade

I had planned on sharing this yesterday, but Christmas stuff got in the way.  I still wanted to show you the polish I wore on Christmas because it’s awesome and it’s currently available (so you can snatch it up for next year).  I’ve actually collected quite a few Christmas polishes, but this one is my favorite!  It’s called Holidays in Hogsmeade and it’s from Lac Attack’s Magical Musings Collection.  Yes, they are Harry Potter themed.  And yes, I bought all of them.  I literally cannot resist the combination of Harry Potter and nail polish.  No joke.

holidays in hogshead

Holidays in Hogsmeade (side note: wouldn’t that be the BEST Christmas ever???) is a glitter topcoat made up of different sizes of red and green glitter and some white glitter.  All the glitters are matte, which makes it even more awesome.  I could not decide what color to put under it, and Anastasia, from Lac Attack, suggested silver or gold.  I chose OPI Glitzerland, and I ended up absolutely loving this!  So festive and I got lots of compliments!

Here’s a bottle shot so you can see the glitters:

Lac Attack polishes are available for purchase here.  Holidays in Hogsmeade is available in a full sized bottle for $8 or a mini bottle for $4.25.  You can also purchase full or mini sizes of the entire Magical Musings collection as a set.  Most of them are currently sold out, but according to Anastasia, these shades aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for a restock!

Hopefully I will get swatches of the rest of the collection up soon!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!  I wish all my readers a (slightly belated) Merry Christmas!  Let me know what your favorite gift was (and what nail polishes you got) or how you celebrated – I always love hearing from you 🙂
