Cold Winds are Rising

Many of you probably already know that yesterday was the season 3 premier of Game of Thrones.  I finally started watching the show last year, and I am obsessed.  I am so glad it’s back!  So I thought it was the perfect time to break out my GoT-themed nail polish, Dollish Polish Cold Winds are Rising.

cold winds are rising

Cold Winds are Rising is a grey jelly polish with different sizes of teal glitter.  Some of the pieces are holographic, too (you can see that in the bottle in the above pic).  It definitely reminds me of a grey version of Dollish Polish Expecto Patronum.  Application was good – I did need to add some thinner to it, but after that it was fine.  I used three coats here, trying to keep them as thin as possible (which wasn’t that easy).

I really love how the combination of the glitter and the base ends up looking like murky seawater.  Or rain.  Kind of perfect for a Game of Thrones polish that isn’t super dark, red, or gold.  I love it!

So… what house are you?  I’m kind of obsessed with House Targaryen (because Daenerys is totally badass), but I still have a soft spot for the Starks.

Also, keep an eye out for some Game of Thrones nail art.  Because I need to do it at some point, right?

Yo-ho Yo-ho A Pirate’s Life For Me

Yo-ho Yo-ho A Pirate’s Life For Me is a new-ish shade from Dollish Polish.  I grew up in Southern California, and the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is my second favorite (after the Haunted Mansion), so of course I had to have it.  I have a serious problem with buying polishes because of the name.  At least this one is gorgeous.

Yo-ho Yo-ho A Pirate’s Life For Me is a deep red jelly with (from what I can tell) silver, gold, red, pink, orange, and blue glitter.  It mostly just looks red with darkish glitter until the light hits it, and then all the colors come out.

Formula was actually really good, which is surprising for a shade like this.  I used two coats with topcoat, but I feel I should mention that it was smooth without the topcoat, which was really nice.

And here’s a micro shot of the bottle so you can see all the different colors:

I believe Yo-ho Yo-ho A Pirate’s Life For Me is still available from the Dollish Polish Big Cartel store.  It’s definitely an unexpected favorite for me, and I’m really glad I decided to buy this!

Expecto Patronum

I’m not gonna lie… I bought this mostly for the name.  I’m a huge Harry Potter nerd.  And I didn’t even start to like glitter until a few weeks ago, so I wasn’t expecting to, but I absolutely LOVE this!  It’s a sheer white base with different sized teal glitter, and though I couldn’t get them to show up in the picture, tiny orange flakes.  If you have the chance to get this, do it! It’s amazing!  I can’t wait for the next Dollish Polish restock!

Shown here is two coats of Expecto Patronum over two coats of Essie Marshmallow.  It only took one thin coat of Essie Good to Go to smooth it out.

The glitter does sink a bit, but it’s easily fixed by turning the bottle upside down.  The glitter is easy to get on the brush and goes on really smoothly.  I don’t have much experience with glitters (especially those in a jelly base like this), but I’d say this is great formula.

What’s your favorite Dollish Polish?  Or the one you want the most, but just can’t get your hands on?

P.S. Can you spot the single piece of purple glitter that ended up in my bottle? Love it!

Graduation/Birthday Haul

Last month, I graduated from college and turned 23.  I had a little extra cash from gifts, and I pretty much spent it all on nail polish, so I thought I’d share what I got.  This is my first haul post, so please let me know what you like or don’t like (and if I should do this again).

I’ve already shown you some of these, but I was waiting for the last ones to arrive before posting.  You can click on the picture to see them bigger.

Top Row (L to R): Windestine Pansies, Jeweled Sand (mini), Hydrangeas (mini), Star Bright (mini), Jeweled Sand, Nails Inc. Tate, Westminister, Hampstead Gardens, Fashion’s Night Out.

Middle Row: Dandy Nails Colorblind², Colorblind, Dollish Polish Expecto Patronum, It’s A Me Mario, Sally Hansen Salon Effects Love Letter, Sephora by OPI Slushied.

Bottom Row: Sinful Colors Opal Glitter, Pearl Harbor, Go Go Girl, Spoiled Paying with Platinum, Visually Slimming, Correction Tape, Jewelry Heist, Essie Mojito Madness, Bikini So Teeny, Off the Shoulder, Fear or Desire.

My favorites are definitely the indies (I may or may not have ordered three more in the past two days), but I really like the others I picked up, too.  The Spoiled ones I got only for nail art because they were $1 each – I like them, but the brush sucks.  I couldn’t pass up the SOPI (which I’ve wanted for forever) and the Nails Inc. on sale for $5 at Sephora.  I was surprisingly impressed by the Sinful Colors polishes – definitely getting more of those soon.  I have no idea when I’ll use  Sally Hansen Salon Effects, but I had CVS Extrabucks and couldn’t resist the pattern of this one.  I’ve already swatched most of the Essies, but when I saw it in person, I decided to add Off the Shoulder to my collection, so you’ll see that one soon.

Which one of these pretties do you want to see first?
