I am a huge fan of Game of Thones (both the books and the movies) and I am crazy excited for the start of season five today! I usually end up missing the opportunity to do nail art for the premiere, but not this time! (I did use a GoT-themed polish two years ago.) I put together some nail art based off of this season five poster, and added in a nod to my favorite house (partially because the season slogan – Vengeance is Coming – wouldn’t fit on my nails).
I used OPI Who Are You Calling Bossy? as the base for all the black nails, and Cult Cosmetics El Matador as the base on the red accent nail. The Game of Thrones logo was painted with OPI Haven’t the Foggiest – I love that it’s a darker silver, but still sparkly. For the rose, I used white acrylic paint (and a bit of black mixed in for shading) and Essie Head Mistress for the Blood. The Targaryen house motto – Fire and Blood – was painted with black acrylic paint. And the silver triangle studs are from Bundle Monster. I topped it all off with OPI Matte Topcoat.
I am completely obsessed with how these turned out! Acrylic paint is definitely upping my nail art game. I’ve been practicing with painting words on my nails, but this is the first time I’ve attempted a script, and I’m honestly really surprised it doesn’t look like a huge blob. If only I was ambidextrous…
I haven’t made it all the way through the books yet, so I’m not sure what to expect this season, but I can’t wait! Let me know what you’re most excited about for this season in the comments below! I’m definitely ready for some more Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow.
If you follow me on Twitter, you probably already know I am slightly obsessed with Game of Thrones. I just caught up with the show this past weekend, and have recently started reading the books. If you’re a fan, you know that you must choose a House, and I am definitely Team Targaryen. Danaerys is totally badass (and definitely going to end up on the Iron Throne), and I thought I’d pay tribute to her, the “mother of dragons,” with a dragon scale mani. It is almost as badass as Dany.
There are already quite a few tutorials on dragon scale nails, so if you’re interested, you can easily look them up. Basically, what I did was quickly apply two coats of Essie Dive Bar, and then I used a straight pin to scratch the outline of the scales. You have to work kind of fast, but it’s totally worth it. Bonus: these are textured, so they’re definitely on-trend right now. I skipped the topcoat to keep the cool, scaly texture.
You might remember me previously mentioning Game of Thrones in my post on Dollish Polish Cold Winds are Rising, which you can check out here.
So tell me, which House are you?
P.S. Without giving away any spoilers, how insane were the last two episodes? I just finished watching them and while there weren’t really any major cliffhangers, I need to know what happens next! So good!
Many of you probably already know that yesterday was the season 3 premier of Game of Thrones. I finally started watching the show last year, and I am obsessed. I am so glad it’s back! So I thought it was the perfect time to break out my GoT-themed nail polish, Dollish Polish Cold Winds are Rising.
Cold Winds are Rising is a grey jelly polish with different sizes of teal glitter. Some of the pieces are holographic, too (you can see that in the bottle in the above pic). It definitely reminds me of a grey version of Dollish Polish Expecto Patronum. Application was good – I did need to add some thinner to it, but after that it was fine. I used three coats here, trying to keep them as thin as possible (which wasn’t that easy).
I really love how the combination of the glitter and the base ends up looking like murky seawater. Or rain. Kind of perfect for a Game of Thrones polish that isn’t super dark, red, or gold. I love it!
So… what house are you? I’m kind of obsessed with House Targaryen (because Daenerys is totally badass), but I still have a soft spot for the Starks.
Also, keep an eye out for some Game of Thrones nail art. Because I need to do it at some point, right?
