Tomboy

Tomboy is the second polish from Windestine’s Little Women collection.  I’m a huge fan of navy polish for fall, and this one is a perfect sparkly option.  So pretty!

tomboy

Tomboy is a deep blue jelly polish with blue, green, and copper glitter.  I used three coats here.  Formula is a little thick, but not too bad.  I used OPI Brisbane Bronze as accent nails to bring out the copper glitter in Tomboy.

Windestine is one of my favorite indie brands, and I am loving the Little Women collection!  I can’t wait to show you the rest of the collection 🙂

Heartbeat

When I saw that Windestine had released a collection inspired by Little Women, I immediately headed over to her Etsy shop and purchased all of them.  I have a serious weakness for nail polish inspired by anything historical or literary.  This is Heartbeat, which I knew would be one of my favorites as soon as I saw the bottle.

Heartbeat is a dark purple jelly with pink and copper microglitter (or very coarse shimmer).  It’s beautiful and perfect and the formula is great.  It is a bit sheer, so I layered two coats over OPI Vant to Bite My Neck?, which matches the base color perfectly.  On my index and pinky nails, I used Bundle Monster plate 317 to stamp the heart pattern starting with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Cinna-Snap (which you can barely see), and then Essie Penny Talk.

Heartbeat is definitely a classic Windestine color.  I absolutely love when she uses small glitters, and her jelly/glitter color combos are always flawless.  Stay tuned for the other four polishes in this collection!

Matte Black

I’m not a huge fan of matte nail polish.  But, I do wear it occasionally (mostly to tone down glitter).  I’m one of those “why get a ton of matte polishes when you can just get the topcoat?” people, partially because I’ve had awful (insane chipping) experiences with matte polishes.  But, I’ve always disliked how matte topcoats kind of make dark polishes lighter and cloudy-ish.  So when I saw this polish in T J Maxx, I thought I’d give it a try.  And I ended up kind of loving it.  As much as I can love a matte polish.

matte black

On three of my fingers is SpaRitual Body, which is a matte black polish.  It is super black, super matte, and super smooth.  Up until now, I’ve hated applying matte polishes.  They’re hard to work with, and get clumpy too easily.  But Body was one of the smoothest polishes I’ve ever applied.  I will definitely be looking for more SpaRitual mattes (if there are any).

matte black

I happened to have purchased Revlon Elusive the day before, and was surprised to find that it was also matte.  While I actually like this one a little better with topcoat, I thought I’d combine the two, since they’re the only two matte polishes I own that I actually like.  It was hard to photograph, but it’s a black polish with green and teal glitter.  So pretty!

Army Green

Military is always a big trend for fall, and it’s definitely one of my favorites.  So this year, I thought I’d try it out on my nails.  I love these colors together – they are definitely fall appropriate.  And I need all the “fall” I can get in this heat wave.

army green

I used OPI Uh-Oh, Roll Down the Window (awesome name, right?) as my base. The stamping was done with Mash plate 42 and SpaRitual Slate.  The color block nails were done with scotch tape and SpaRitual Slate.  And the glitter on my middle finger is Windestine Girl With the Best Smile.

I really love the color block nails – definitely something i need to try again (even though I ripped my polish off on the first two attempts).

The Chicago Collection

Today I am very excited to have Lac Attack’s Chicago Collection for you!  I love Chicago, so I was really excited when these were announced, and they definitely didn’t disappoint!  They were inspired by the song “Cell Block Tango”, is probably my favorite song from the musical – you should definitely go look it up right now if you’ve never heard it (check it out at the end of this post).

First up: Pop.  Hello circle glitter!  I’ve been lusting after circle glitter polishes for some time, and this one is my first!  So, even though pink isn’t really my thing, I’m kind of loving this!  It is a perfect representation of that part of the song, and it’s all-around a really cool polish.  Black microglitter, small neon pink glitter, and neon pink and black circle glitter… how could this combo not be amazing?  I used one coat over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  Neon freaks out my camera, so the darker pink is a more accurate representation of the color (they’re actually all the same color).

pop

So I said to him, ‘You pop that gum one more time…’ and he did.  So I took the shotgun off the wall and fired two warning shots… into his head.

Six is definitely a favorite!  If I could only get one, I’d probably pick this one.  It is a gorgeous mixture of super-sparkly green, blue, and purple microglitter.  I layered one coat over OPI Black Onyx.  So. Freaking. Pretty.  Right?

six

Single, my ass.  Not only was he married, oh, no, he had six wives… You know, some guys just can’t hold their arsenic.

Squish is destined to be a favorite.  It’s a classic mix of silver, red, and black glitter of different shapes and sizes.  The red bars did give me a bit of trouble because they’re really long, but they laid flat after I pushed them down with a toothpick – not a big deal.  This is one coat over Nails Inc. Basil Street.  P.S. This is my favorite part of the song.

Then he ran into my knife.  He ran into my knife ten times.

After the three glitters come the three shimmers.  The first is Uh-Uh.  This one was the thinnest and sheerest of the three, but super easy to work with.  It’s also pretty gorgeous.  I love jewel tones for fall, and this one is perfect.  This was two (and a half) coats.

uh-uh

Yeah, but did you do it?

Uh-Uh.  Not guilty.

Cicero is a shimmery, almost metallic, purple with blue and pink shimmer.  It reminds me a tiny bit of OPI Russian Navy.  Very pretty and vampy.  The formula on this one was a bit think, and a little difficult to work with, but it’s worth it.  I promise.  This was two coats, but you might be able to get away with one if you’re super careful.

It wasn’t until later, when I was washing the blood off my hands, I even knew they were dead.

And last, but certainly not least, is Lipschitz.  This one might just be my favorite.  I love this color.  I’m painting my bedroom soon and I might just be bringing this with me to the paint store.  It is the perfect emerald color with white shimmer and purple flecks.  I want to wear this all the time.  This one is almost a one-coater, but I did two to fill in a few bare spots.

lipschitz

I guess you can say we broke up because of artistic differences.  He saw himself as alive… and I saw him dead.

My picks are Lipschitz and Six, but I really do like the whole collection.  There is definitely something for everyone in here!

The Chicago Collection is launching today Saturday, September 21st at 1pm EST in the Lac Attack shop, so head over there to pick up a few (or all) of them.  Let me know which ones you get (or are planning on getting) in the comments below!  She is also opening up her brand new shop at the same time, so plenty of other polishes will be available for restock.

*These polishes were provided to me for my unbiased review.

P.S. This is the longest my nails have EVER been!  They don’t even look that long and they’re starting to get in the way – damn my tiny nail beds.  I don’t think I can do any longer than this, but I might keep them this way for a while.

Fowl Play

Orly Fowl Play spent a very long time on my wishlist.  I’d pick it up and look at it whenever I went to Sally’s, and every time, I convinced myself I didn’t need it, or I didn’t really like it all that much.  And then one day, I was in a hurry, and the salesgirl told me I could get one free, so I grabbed this on a whim.  And I am so glad I finally did, because it is gorgeous!

fowl play

Fowl Play is a dark purple jelly with holographic glitter, iridescent flakies, and tons of other good stuff.  This is a fairly old swatch, but I believe this is two coats (definitely not more than three).

fowl play

I think this is perfect for fall – classic dark purple with a bit of magic thrown in.  Love!

Star Wars!

I’m a few months late for Star Wars Day, but I recently purchased three polishes from Rainbow Polish’s awesome Star Wars collection, so I thought I’d do a big post with all three!

First up is Yo-Duh!

b-fett

Yo-Duh! is a green-tinted jelly with large pale green glitter, tiny black glitter, and bright green squares.  The green color in the base is barely there, which I actually like, because you could probably make this work over almost any color.  Plus, it’s not streaky, so it’s easy to layer over contrasting colors, which doesn’t often work well with polishes like this.  I do have to say that the base was kind of watery, but not too bad.  Surprisingly, the green squares were the hardest to get out of the bottle.

This is two coats of Yo-Duh! over OPI Jade is the New Black.  I did have to dab a little glitter into some bald spots to even it out.  I think this would look awesome over black!

yo-duh!

Next up is my favorite: Trooper (as in Storm Trooper).

trooper

Everyone loves black and white glitter, right?  I have a reasonable collection of them myself.  And so far, Trooper might just be my favorite.  I love the ratio of black to white: tons of white (in different shapes and sizes) with just a touch of black.  But I really love the tiny iridescent flakes!  They really had something special.  I wish I had a bottle of just baby flakies that I can wear with everything!

Shown is one coat of Trooper over Essie Butler, Please?

And finally, we have B-Fett (named after Boba Fett).

b-fett

I really love this one, too!  It’s a very interesting combination of colors, and very reminiscent of Boba Fett’s uniform.  B-Fett is a sheer gray base (a little thicker and more pigmented than Yo-Duh!) with teal, light blue, white, and yellow glitters.  I really love the effect the colors have all together – it reminds me of a rainy day.  P.S. Can I just say how much I love sheer matte glitter?  So pretty!

This was two coats of B-Fett over Sephora by OPI Frankly, I Don’t Give A-dam.  Again, I had to place some of the glitter to even it out.

yo-duh!

I picked my favorites, but there are eight polishes total in the Rainbow Polish Star Wars Collection.  I might pick up a few more (probably Artoo), but I am very happy with my picks!

You can purchase these and more in Rainbow Polish’s Etsy shop!
