Where I’ve Been

This is just a brief post to let you all know why I haven’t been posting lately.

First off, I’d like to thank Christina and Retu for helping out with their great guest posts! Because of them, this blog wasn’t completely neglected for the past few weeks.

So basically, one of my four (yes, four) part-time jobs turned into a full time job, so I obviously ran out of free time. And as a lot of you know, blogging is like a part-time job, especially if you post almost every day. I love blogging, but I had to sacrifice the fun job for the one that pays (and that I can actually put on my résumé).

I am planning on setting up some sort of schedule this weekend, and then just scheduling posts in advance every week. Hopefully this will allow me to continue blogging on a regular basis.

So, I will be back very soon, but I will definitely not be posting as often – maybe two or three times a week. And I am still accepting guest posts! Email me if you’re interested.

Thanks so much for your understanding as I try to figure out my uber busy schedule!

Blog Update

You may have noticed that I’ve been posting much less frequently lately.  To be honest, I haven’t really been that excited about blogging lately.  I have been posting here almost daily for over a year, and it’s kind of becoming a chore.  Which is something I really don’t think blogging about nails should be.  It should be fun, which is why I started The Polish Squirrel in the first place.  I’ve even stopped painting my nails on a daily basis, which I’ve been doing since before I even started this blog.  And (shocker!) I’ve actually gone days at a time with naked nails.  I know.  I’m sure I still polish my nails more than the average person, just not quite as much anymore.

I still love nail polish way too much.  I still enjoy doing nail art sometimes.  And I still really like this whole blogging community that has probably doubled the number of friends I have.

No, I am not going to stop blogging.  I’m just going to be doing it less frequently (at least for the time being).  And I’m going to do it when I actually feel inspired to write a post, and not because I have to.  Because I genuinely feel that the posts I really want to write are far better than posts I feel obligated to write.  I will still be doing reviews and nail art.  But, I’m going to try stick to showing you guys things you may not be able to easily find elsewhere.  Like indie swatches and nail art.  Or polishes that I truly love.  (Or ones that I really hate and feel the need to warn you about.) Because you really don’t need to see more swatches of the new OPI collection when there are probably hundreds of them out there already, many of which are much better than mine.

So this post is not to tell you I’m quitting.  I just wanted to let you know about a few changes you might see around here.  There will be fewer overall posts, but hopefully the ones there are will be better quality.  I am really going to try and get better at filming videos (something that is definitely a challenge for me), so you will probably seeing those around.  Maybe.  I might play around with the design a bit.  And I will probably be much more selective about what I post.

I do hope you still continue to follow this blog and would love to hear any suggestions from you.

You can keep up with me on instagram (@thepolishsquirrel), twitter, or Facebook (links in the menu bar).

And if you really want to, you can check out my other blog at www.thehistorysquirrel.wordpress.com (please don’t judge my lack of naming creativity – I tend to start blogs at like 4 am and it wasn’t something I thought through all that well), which I started about a month ago to focus on my other love: history.  Keep in mind that I’m a total nerd, but you might learn something new, and if you hate it, that’s totally fine, too.  Just putting it out there.

And now that I’ve bored you with a long pictureless post, I’m going to let you go.  But I would like to say that I appreciate my readers more than you know.  I still get a rush every time I get a new follower or comment.  It’s still exciting to think that people actually read my blog.  So thank you!

Please check out the other blogs in my blogroll if you feel you must now look at lots of nail pictures to make up for all this reading.  And post links to your own blogs in the comments below for me (and everyone else) to check out!  Thanks everyone!

Christmas Update

This is just a quick post to let you all know that I’ve decided to skip the last day of the challenge.  I’ve been dealing with a very bad cold since Friday and didn’t have the energy to paint my nails at all, let alone do nail art.  Plus, I couldn’t really decide what to do anyway.

So, I hope you all enjoyed my Christmas nail art this year!  I had a lot of fun doing them and I’m already starting to write down ideas for next year 🙂

I wish you all a happy holiday!

Advent Calendar Challenge by Happy Hands

Just a quick post to let you know that I’ve decided to participate in the Advent Calendar Nail Challenge put together by Kristi at Happy Hands.  I’m not entirely sure I’ll have time to do every day, but I think it’ll be fun, and it’s an excuse to do more holiday nail art.  So starting tomorrow, expect to see a lot of nail art from me 🙂

advent calendar challenge

If you’re looking for some nail art inspiration, you should definitely participate.  You don’t need a blog – you can also participate on Twitter or Instagram.  Check out Kristi’s post for more details.

Let me know if you’re participating so I can make sure to catch your posts!

December Julep Maven Polishes

Julep just released their polish choices for the December Maven box!  This month’s “theme” is glitter!  I’ve actually been really liking glitter accents on my nails lately, so I’m pretty excited to try these.  They all look very appropriate for the holidays.  Click here to see swatches on the Julep Blog.

I’m waiting to see what this month’s Maven’s Choice box looks like, bur right now, I’m planning on getting the It Girl Box for this month – I am completely in love with Ivy (the blue), and I feel like all the other boxes contain polishes similar to ones I already own.

If you’re already a Julep Maven, I’d love to hear which box you’re getting this month and what you think of the colors!  And if you’re not, you can sign up HERE, or by clicking the “Become a Maven” link in the right-hand menu bar.  Use code “COLOR2012” to get your intro box for only a penny!

November Julep Maven Polishes

This is just a quick post to show you the November Julep Maven polishes.  They’re suedes!  For those of you who aren’t well-versed in polish finishes (don’t worry, you’re not alone), suedes are matte polishes with a heavy shimmer – matte, but still sparkly.  These are definitely great, luxe options for fall – just picture these with a cozy sweater!

I surprised myself by actually liking these, though I still haven’t decided which box I want.  I’m waiting until they release the Maven’s Choice option tomorrow.  I’m curious to try their matte topcoat – I’ve only tried Essie’s so far (which works great, if any of you are looking for a good one).

If you’re already a Julep Maven, I’d love to hear which box you’re getting this month and what you think of the suedes!  And if you’re not, you can sign up HERE, or by clicking the “Become a Maven” link in the right-hand menu bar.  Use code “COLOR2012” to get your intro box for only a penny!

Comparison Swatches

I’ve had quite a few requests for comparison swatches from my readers lately.  I’m planning on picking up some nail wheels to use for this purpose because the constant applying/removing of polish is hard on my real nails (which are pretty weak to begin with).  Hopefully this will happen in the next few days, and I can get started.

Anyway, I thought I’d open it up to requests.  If you want to see a comparison of any of my polishes (check out my stash page to see what I’ve got), add them in the comments below.

Here’s the list so far:

  • Essie Head Mistress vs. China Glaze Adventure Red-y
  • Sally Hansen Pumice vs. Essie Who is the Boss
  • China Glaze Exotic Encounters vs. Finger Paints Go Van Gogh
  • Essie Yogaga vs. Essie Sand Tropez
  • Essie Boxer Shorts vs. Essie Lapis of Luxury

I can also do groups of colors (taupes, greiges, dark blues, etc.)

So if you want to see some comparison swatches, let me know, and hopefully I’ll be able to get them posted in the next couple of weeks 🙂
